BCNGroup Communities Bead Game
Dr. Kent Myers (speaking as an individual) and Doug Weidner (KMPro.org) made summaries of the meeting on Monday, Dec 8, 2003, at KMPro offices in Northern Virginia.
Doug Weidner has laid out the KMPro vision of the future and this is a start. He has collected excellent authoring and presentation technologies and has made these available to the BCNGroup.
The KMPro's work is important work, because the need for knowledge science is greatly felt within the business community and within government. One can characterize the situation as one where the need is unmeet because our society does not have a clear view of the nature of knowledge creation, knowledge sharing and knowledge management.
The BCNGroup Founding Committee believes that the KM vision abrogates a greater social responsibility that is based on the public's need for science and scholarship. Ultimately we all lose when our school and university curriculum is not exactly relevant to the public need.
Manhattan - type Project to
Establish the Knowledge Sciences as an academic discipline.
.
One can ask the question
"why is the knowledge sciences missing"?
"The knowledge science is missing because fundamentalism in its various forms have not allowed the natural science of human knowledge to be established as part of the regular and nature evolution of the natural sciences - occurring in the 20th century." What we have in place of the knowledge sciences is a type of “scientific mythology”.

Dr. Myers very correctly identifies why this issue is important.
The goal of sending men back to the moon can be contrasted with the goal of developing a natural science that is sophisticated enough to stand against the religious fundamentalism, the scientific reductionist, and the commercial interests that brings us porn, non-substance news, entertainment based on additive processes, and avenues for the causes of terrorism.
The participants of a global conflict between memetically simple fundamentalisms are more than willing to absorb all the resources that our world culture allows, out of ignorance and self-deception. One only needs to listen to those who would make war a business, and the "New War" about the victory of the "American Way” over all other ways. If by The American Way we mean the set of ideals that we almost but not completely live up to, then we have to account for the ideal that the minority’s rights are respected.
An enlightened community will understand the causes of this war and will address completely them rather that supporting the entrenchment of an unnecessary and never-ending conflict. It would be less expensive and more satisfying. One can develop a better understanding about how to build nations in the third world while making it clear that the process on one by which the local traditions and cultural sensitivities are allowed to find a nature place within a community of nations.
To bring the full message, we need input from the scholars; Pribram, Grossberg, Werbos, Kugler, Hameroff, Zadeh, Kauffman, Freeman, Edelman, Shaw, Bar-Yam, Barto, Levine deRam, and others. The knowledge management community is without an deep enough understanding of the nature of human knowledge sharing, or of the social dynamics related to social change and stability. First, because the effort is not made and second because the curriculum is simply not widely available.

Our proposal takes the lead in establishing the knowledge sciences as an academic discipline, and in this way demonstrate that his promise of a better American will return as the central issue of his campaign.
