Friends and Correspondents:
I am deeply involved through year-end in programming and documentation of our Mark 3 Builder tool so I am intentionally hard to reach and seldom drawn out on these issues.
As I told Paul, I have made commitments to others to prepare and update the long unpublished paper, A Physical Theory of Knowledge and Computation (1993) in anticipation of commercial release of the Mark 3 Beta in 2006. For now, all that has been shown publicly is an axiomatic PowerPoint slide used first in Knowledge Management- Business Process (Delphi Oakland 1998) paper, Knowledge Technology (IDEAlliance Seattle 2002) keynote, and Seybold (San Francisco Sept 2003) keynote. You can find it on our web page www.knowledgefoundations.com .
Those technology settings revealed the business bottom-line, while successfully keeping secret that the theory of knowledge successfully replaces logic in all reasoning within the guaranteed uncertainties (QM) of natural law. As Peter Freeman once lamented to me before leaving UCI for NSF, there is no science in Computer Science and no one there would recognize one, if they saw it. 18 years later that seems still the case.
My former colleagues in the UCI Physics Department have pressed me to get that most fundamental paper published in a serious hard-science form either in Nature Physics or Physical Review of Letters. Its predictions are testable within both experimental and theoretical Physics and have direct consequence in extending the dynamical theory of QED to all forces -- independent of coupling strengths. Hardy Meyers (UCI Physics) has agreed to review it as I am writing and I have hoped John Sowa might also join in.
The general consequence is that the theory of a continuous variable is judged inappropriate to representations of natural law (inserts uncountable infinites that cannot be removed by finite constraints). Mathematics in present form is the singular SOURCE of computing complexities, it assumes AND INSERTS an infinite resource assumption!! Similarly self consistency, while desirable and necessary for science, is insufficient without "parsimony" (Ockham's Razor) = conservation of information (testable assertion). Great conservation laws that guarantee the finiteness of all natural resources rule natural laws. Information conservation preserves finiteness (natural cost measures) in competitive use of a finite reality. NSF CISE has all kinds of programs coming due this month looking for some means of reasoning with uncertainty -- frankly -- its already done.
Now seems a good time to say as much -- both in science and with an emerging commercial technology demonstration. This coming year promises to be truly exciting -- it is fantastic to be alive. For now I am too busy to celebrate or spend any more time blowing this horn.
Thanks for your continuing patience.
