Regarding the direction IT has taken us

Communication from a Semantic Web standards related e-forum

Dear Dr. Prueitt,

I’d like to thank you to bring such interesting topic on the map. In the past, I’ve been through the BCNGroup documents and more precisely the GIFT roadmap and found them so accurate.

My background is in pure mathematics but I deviated from it a long time ago for IT (after a short deceiving stage in AI).

I agree that RDF and the derivates are not adequate to represent semantic, beside the intrinsic limitations raised by the Incompleteness Theorem, some multi-values and modal logics cannot be fully represented. Thus leaving the space to the human being, finally.

I am working on a system for web service compliance to an enterprise model. In a sense it is very similar to the GIF you promote.

I like your scoped ontology approach and used a similar one but using modal ontology (which are by definition scoped ;-). But rather than focusing on merging ontologies, I focus on linking them using ontology of ontology. But that’s just a different perspective to achieve the same goal.

I’d like to better understand the methodology you present in the roadmap document, do you think there is way to do so? I mean assuming there this is no confidential information.

Anyhow many thanks to you for what you do,

Regards,

C.T.

Note: I am also member of several technical comities of the OASIS consortium. The OASIS started to address semantic issues and representation. I am not sure yet if it is a better forum that the W3C to make your points.
